Many factors impacted my decision to transfer to [university], but the one factor that influenced my decision the most was a desire for more diversity in my social life. [University] offered exactly this, but regrettably, it was my love of the urban social scene that impacted my academic performance, as I prioritized my time outside the classroom over my classwork. Upon realizing the rigor of [university’s] industrial engineering curriculum, I adjusted my focus to produce better results in class and finished my last three semesters with an average GPA of 3.35. While there were some tough classes intermixed, I am proud of my comeback and fortunate to have learned an important lesson: taking advantage of office hours and collaborating with classmates yields positive results.

Just as I persevered in the classroom at [university], I persisted in pursuit of a better GMAT score. I distinctly remember feeling both relief and frustration while reading my GMAT printout after taking the test for the fourth time. I had finally achieved my target verbal sub-score but let my target quant sub-score slip away. While the score drop might appear concerning, I believe I have the quantitative skills to succeed in business school, as evidenced by my professional success in analytical roles. For instance, I build ROI models to help senior leadership make data-driven decisions on network improvement projects and make inferences on large data sets about warehouse capacity and throughput. Nevertheless, I plan to complete MBAMath to bolster my business math skills in preparation for business school.

The wisdom I gained from my first three semesters paid off in my later years at [university] and in my engineering career. I’m confident this wisdom will translate to an academically successful career at UNC Kenan-Flagler.
