Describe how you would contribute to the UCLA Anderson community.
I will contribute to the Anderson community by sharing unique insights I’ve gained from my professional experience and my passion for community engagement. As a Product Manager at ABC travel website, I optimized a new hotel booking feature and launched it in 150 countries. Thirty percent of Anderson students go on to work in the tech industry, many of them career switchers with little previous experience. I’ll partner with classmates embarking on a new career and pass on my industry knowledge during classes and interview practice.
In my two years as a mentor for immigrant teenagers, I helped a reserved student develop the confidence to advocate for herself. When a women’s group started at my company, I immediately asked to lead its mentoring initiative; I became a champion for female employees, striving to meet their varying needs for mentoring and support. Through mentorship, I’ve encouraged learning and growth in my community, and I’ll continue to do so at Anderson by mentoring other women in the WBC.
Speaking with current Anderson students reminded me of my mentoring experiences, with second years ready to support my class just as I’ll support those coming after me. I could hear the excitement in their voices when they talked about life at Anderson, and I could envision myself sitting with classmates in the courtyard, working through a problem with a project team, coaching a peer through recruitment, or just hanging out with fellow members of the Outdoor Adventure or Craft Beer clubs.
