What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?
Sample One
The one thing that most people do not know about me also happens to be one of the first things friends notice when they walk into my apartment for the first time: no TV! I have lived without a television for some time now. I find it almost relaxing to not have that constant background noise I used to crave. I don’t remember exactly when I decided that I wanted to live without a television, but I do remember why. I want to spend as much free time as possible doing things I am more passionate about, such as playing music and reading biographies.
Sample Two
Growing up, I had a significant speech impediment, the result of prolonged hearing loss during my crucial years of language development. My hearing was surgically corrected, but it took eight years of speech therapy to overcome my impediment. Today, my impediment is not really noticeable and few people even know about my childhood struggle. The painstaking work I did to develop into a confident and effective public speaker has continued to pay dividends especially in my career. Recently, after presenting to a group of 250 colleagues at Techno Company, I received accolades from senior management on my ability to engage a large audience while delivering a cohesive message. The audience did not know about the long journey that led to that stage.
