Based on your understanding of the Fuqua culture, what are the three most meaningful ways you expect to engage and contribute to our community outside the classroom? (300 words)

In researching Fuqua, I know that mentoring, MILE, and Admissions will be a few key ways I engage on campus. I have benefitted both personally and professionally from great mentors and value the importance of mentorship. I will engage in Fuqua2Duke, mentoring undergraduate students on how to best position themselves in their future careers. I recently participated in a University mentorship program, similar to Fuqua2Duke, and realized numerous things I would have done differently during my college years. I love helping people find their passions and prepare for their future but am empathetic that it is a daunting task. Participating in Reading Now, a mentorship program that uses reading as a medium to guide elementary students, has been a unique and meaningful experience. I want to start a similar program for Fuquans to get involved in the Durham community by partnering with an elementary school in the vicinity.

I will leverage my background from a large retailer to become a MILE leader in the Luxury Brand and Retail Club. As a first-year, I would utilize my network to bring new speakers to events, such as (name) from the Fashion Office. Speaking with Fuqua students, I have learned how critical MILE is for the recruitment process. As a second-year, I will support my peers by helping with interview preparation and determining how prior experiences can be translated in a retail setting.

As a way to engage with prospective students and contribute to shaping the Fuqua community, I would like to become an Admissions Fellow. As a University Alumni interviewer, I love learning from prospective students and acting as a University brand ambassador. When I expressed interest in Admissions, Student Name (’21), explained that the Admissions Resource Coordinator Program was a great way to get involved as a first-year student.
