Pursuing an MBA is a catalyst for personal and professional growth. How have you grown in the past? How do you intend to grow at Kellogg?
As a freshman I thought my life looked like everyone else’s – parties Thursday through Saturday (maybe the occasional Monday), skipping classes held at giant lecture halls, spending Sundays in bed until a slight sense of responsibility crept in. When my mother arrived unannounced during my summer abroad, I knew my life was about to change. I was immediately pulled from school and sent to rehab for alcoholism.
Rehab forces you to grow in ways I never knew I would. Never did I expect to live with women coming off hard drugs, but through this I became empathetic. Never did I expect to have my freedom limited but through this I learned patience and persistence. Never did I expect to spend four months disconnected from my everyday life, but through this I became introspective. Each of these learnings enabled me to grow and refocused me on my true goals; upon returning to school I became more heavily involved with academics and my community.
Those lifestyle choices still hold true today as I invest my time growing my career to substantiate my love of marketing, and lead pro-bono consulting projects for local non-profits to give back to communities important to me. My natural next step for continued growth is to pursue my MBA in hopes of transitioning into brand management and ultimately becoming CMO of a CPG company.
Renowned for its marketing program and strong community environment, Kellogg is the ideal place for my next step. Through courses such as Accounting for Decision Making and Business Strategy, Kellogg’s strong core curriculum will help me grow professionally, broadening my business skillset. Beyond core skills, Kellogg will train me to think like a marketer, helping me understand the intricacies of the CPG industry through classes like Marketing Channel Strategies or experiences such as the Kraft CPG Boot Camp. In addition, Kellogg provides numerous opportunities that will allow me to grow personally: participating in Kellogg’s Exchange Program with HEC or the International Growth Lab would enhance my global perspective, and leading extracurricular activities such as the Marketing Club and Impact Consulting Club will enable me to delve into my personal interests within the close-knit Kellogg community. Finally, Kellogg is the best environment to grow as a leader – from courses such as Leadership in Organizations to Suite and Boardroom Dynamics Kellogg provides a complete perspective on leadership for all stages of my career.
Though I’ve listed ways in which I intend to grow, I recognize that Kellogg will inspire many other avenues of growth that I don’t even realize yet. Kellogg provides the perfect environment I need to grow personally, professionally, and as a leader, and is undoubtedly the best MBA program for me.
