Describe your career goals. How will an MBA from Ross help you to achieve those goals?
I aspire to lead high-performing organizations by creating environments that foster innovation in order to positively impact our world. I once believed that an MBA would launch a career in sports until two years of teaching uncovered my passion for education. I now hope a Ross MBA will propel me to start my own human capital consulting group that will work with school districts to increase student engagement and achievement by maximizing teacher potential.
As a Teach for America corps member, I walked into school every day with the same mission: do what is best for my students. I did; but I often reflect on what I could have done differently. I wish I recognized sooner that teaching, especially at a high school, is not an individual sport. To combat this issue, I want to coach school leadership to create environments where high-performing teams will thrive.
Ross students and alumni embrace the team spirit that best caters to my learning style. Completing MAP projects and working with the Community Consulting Club are hands-on learning opportunities that provide valuable consulting experience and a deeper understanding of team dynamics. At a recent coffee chat, I discovered the Design + Business Club. I realized design thinking principles will be useful for creating professional learning communities that promote innovation in our schools.
Before I start my own firm, I need to gain more consulting experience, build expertise in organizational effectiveness, and continue my development as a leader. With many action-based learning opportunities and a warm, collaborative community, Ross is the perfect training ground for achieving my career goals. A Ross MBA will help me build better schools for our children, effectively delivering another example of the Michigan Difference.
