What are your post-MBA goals and how will your prior experience and the London Business School programme contribute towards these?
My post-MBA goal is to work at a top-tier strategy consulting firm such as KPMG, PwC or McKinsey in London. I anticipate beginning as a generalist in strategy consulting, where I will hone the business and leadership skills I will learn in my MBA studies. Over time, I hope to develop a focus on financial services industry consulting, and in the longer term, move into the social impact consulting space, where I will deepen my understanding of the intersection of business and social impact. My long-term goal is to bring these experiences together in the impact investing space by joining a company like Wellington Management in London, where I can help social enterprises pitch themselves, raise capital and measure impact.
My three years of experience at EY-Parthenon will contribute to my post-MBA goal roles. At EY-Parthenon, I have cultivated steady client relationships, led diverse teams, and collaborated with colleagues in India, China and Israel; my strong work ethic has helped me succeed in the most stressful moments of my consulting engagements. Additionally, I have built networking skills, which will help me get staffed on the type of projects I want to focus on, from financial services to social impact.
The London Business School MBA programme will contribute to these goals through the school’s blend of academic and experiential learning experiences and recruiting support, which will be crucial for me as I transition to strategy consulting in London. The MBA will bridge the gap in my lack of formal business education through classes in the core such as Managerial Accounting and Finance. Additionally, the flexible programme allows me to tailor my coursework to focus on finance, while through ‘block’ courses I will immerse myself in non-academic experiences, such as in-semester internships and side projects.
London Business School’s large alumni base in strategy consulting in London will help me expand my network as I relocate to Europe from the US. The location of the programme in Regent’s Park, adjacent to my target firms, presents the perfect networking opportunity. Additionally, the recruiting resources provided by the Consulting Club and Career Services Center, including formal networking sessions, case prep programmes, peer reviews and career guides, will help me in strategy consulting, specifically at KPMG, PwC or McKinsey.
The experiential learning opportunities offered by the Impact Consulting Club and the Social Impact Investing Club will help me grow my experiences at the intersection of business and social impact. Participating in the Impact Consulting Club’s term-long project will give me hands-on experience in solving a business problem for a social enterprise in my first year before I grow to be on the executive committee in my second year. At the Social Impact Club’s Invest for Good Conference and Social Impact Hub, I will build a targeted Impact Investing education and evaluate real-world social enterprises as potential investments. London Business School will jump-start my post-MBA career, and help me build a network in the impact investing world, which I will leverage in my future career.
