What are your short- and long-term goals? Why do you need an MBA to achieve those goals? Why are you interested in Tuck specifically?
“America is living in spin.” After watching the movie “Thank You for Smoking,” I knew what I wanted to do with my life: not become a lobbyist, but be the brains behind influencing consumers. Through Prophet I have first-hand experiences in understanding consumers; however I want to expand beyond recommendations and apply my knowledge as part of a team that dreams up the next consumer product. Ultimately I want to be CMO for a CPG company such as PepsiCo or General Mills. My hope is to start as an assistant brand manager where I’ll focus on managing and growing an individual brand, then rotate to other brands, accumulating new learnings to leverage as my responsibilities grow. As CMO I look forward to traditional responsibilities such as overseeing the company’s campaigns and brand initiatives, as well as adding newer responsibilities like using technology-enabled analytics to hold marketing accountable. An MBA is a prerequisite to making this transition; however I am seeking more than an MBA. I want the Tuck MBA, as through its personalized curriculum, global mindset, and emphasis on leadership Tuck will enable me to not only transition into brand management, but equip me with the strategic thinking I need to accelerate my journey to CMO.
Academically, Tuck’s core curriculum will provide me with the essential business toolset I need to manage a brand through subjects like Corporate Finance, and Operations Management. Beyond broadening my business acumen, Tuck’s emphasis on strategy will amplify my marketing training, preparing me to approach brand management with a growth-minded lens. Through courses such as Marketing in an Environment of Constant Change or opportunities like the Research in Practice Seminar: Time in the Consumer Mind I will learn how to think deeply about positioning products according to consumers’ mindsets and adapt depending upon economic forces.
I hope to broaden my global viewpoint through TuckGO, and am especially interested in the Global Insights Expedition Engaging with India: A Reverse Innovation Laboratory, approaching innovation frugally. I want to contrast this with an Exchange Program through HEC, studying luxury branding. Coupled together, these experiences provide the unique perspective needed to lead in dynamic environments.
Beyond academics, Tuck has an appealing list of “extras” which will complete my MBA experience. I am excited for Personal Leadership where I will pinpoint key strengths to amplify and opportunity areas to work against, ultimately fortifying my leadership presence. I look forward to leading the Marketing Club, where I will organize networking opportunities for members and share ideas and best practices, while building the strong camaraderie made possible by a common interest.
Encompassing all that I am looking for, Tuck is my first choice and undoubtedly the best program to advance my career. While I listed several reasons why I am interested in Tuck, I recognize that as I delve further into exploring the truly unique, close-knit community through events such as Women’s Weekend, I will uncover even more ways that I will fit into the Tuck experience of learning, leading, and doing.
