Tuck students are aware of how their individuality adds to the fabric of Tuck. Tell us who you are and what you will contribute

I surprise people as they get to know me - I frequently hear that I’m different than my first impression. In response I always laugh and say I have a lot of layers. I’m energized by new experiences and strive to be 100% present in any situation I find myself in - regardless of how out of my comfort zone it may be. This mentality is shaped by three characteristics:

I’m curious. I love learning about anything that’s new and different. This is especially apparent when I travel- I love getting off the beaten path. When I went to Curacao, my friends stayed exclusively at resorts while I ventured off to try local specialties, goat and iguana. I went to a famous local restaurant and ended up talking with the owner about his passion for food (the goat was delicious, the iguana not so much). I’ll bring this curiosity with me as a leader of the Design and Innovation club. Jjjjjj told me about a new conference the club will organize next spring. I’d love not only to learn more about design thinking, but also to help organize and grow this conference.

I’m action oriented. When I’m pursuing a new challenge, I work diligently towards it. In high school, I met exchange students who inspired me to go abroad on an immersion program. My parents agreed to let me go if I raised $1,000. So, I saved everything I could from working a $5/hour job. I was able to raise the money, and moved to Mulhouse, France. But, it didn’t feel like France! Mulhouse borders Germany and is heavily influenced by German culture, and one-quarter of Mulhouse’s population are immigrants, primarily from North Africa. Navigating this extreme multicultural environment at sixteen was one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Currently, I’m using the same persistence to become outdoor climbing certified before going on a week-long rock climbing trip in Australia. I’ll use the skills I develop this year to plan and lead climbing trips as part of the Tuck Outdoor Club.

I’m open minded - I’ll try everything once. In college I worked as a sales intern at a construction company. My boss requested that I work in the field because, as the only woman, I could fit into ceilings, walls, and floors more easily than the other workers. I ended up wiring the internet in a dorm one of my friends lived in! I’ll contribute the same open mindedness as I try different clubs at Tuck, and specifically participate in Tuck Grooves. I’ll rally friends to attend dance workshops with me. And, I’ll always be a buddy to people who want to try a new activity or club but who don’t want to go alone.

Overall, I’ll bring a willingness to try new things, a genuine interest in getting to know my classmates and their diverse backgrounds, and an excitement to conquer new challenges inside and outside the classroom to Tuck.
