At Cornell, our students and alumni share a desire to positively impact the organizations and communities they serve. Taking into consideration your background, how do you intend to make a meaningful impact on an elite MBA community?
At Cornell, I will share my knowledge of programming as a member of the Investment Management Club. One of the highlights of my time working at Giant Finance was teaching programming to my colleague, Maria, over our lunch hours. I was thrilled when Maria told me how she had landed her dream role working as a data analyst, thanks to our coaching sessions. Her success showed me how impactful sharing technical knowledge can be on the trajectory of someone’s career. I spoke to the current president of the Investment Management Club, Mickey Mouse, about how the club organizes workshops to help students build technical skills. As a member of the club, I would love to organize coding workshops and leverage my contact list of investment industry practitioners to host Zoom meet-ups, focusing on programming in the investment industry.
As a member of the Community Impact Club, I hope to spearhead the Community Impact Blood drive. Johnson MBA alum Minnie Mouse told me how COVID disrupted the event over the past two years, just as it has impacted Red Cross blood drives nationally. As a Crohn’s Disease survivor who relied on blood donations during surgeries, I am committed to getting the event back on track and bringing Johnson School participation back to pre-Covid levels.
I also plan to help organize the Community Impact Club’s annual auction. After speaking to Johnson 2020 MBA Donald Duck, the former auction chair, I learned how the auction raffles off big-ticket items during a large social gathering. When I was in college, my fellow student comedians came together to raise money for charity by putting together a benefit stand-up event for military veterans. To bring some entertainment to the event while raising money for the Community Foundation of Tompkins County, I envision enlisting the help of the Johnson Stand-Up/Improv Club to put on a live performance at the event, encouraging participants to “bid” on the topics for the performances. I believe adding live entertainment will be a great way to increase student participation while raising money for a great Finger Lakes cause.
