Dear Admissions Committee,
My career aspirations are defined by a fierce sense of urgency to mitigate climate change by expanding global access to clean energy. The solutions are not straightforward and require innovative problem solving. However, I am comfortable being uncomfortable. I can navigate a difficult path under pressure and trust myself to deliver in the face of uncertainty.
When I joined [firm]’s 250-person Global Research department, our Commodity Strategy team’s energy work only covered oil and natural gas. To me, this was an opportunity to build macro clean energy strategy to better serve our 15,000+ global clients and help the firm grow as an energy transition thought leader. 100+ weekly reports, countless new market models and forecasts, 5 intensive long-form research notes, dozens of investor meetings, and multiple 250+ client presentations later, I have formally created a new research vertical for macro clean energy and climate policy that brings in profitable trades. In January, I will co-lead a delegation of portfolio managers through the Middle East for meetings focused on the energy transition. It is uniquely challenging to be entrepreneurial within the labyrinthine corporate structure of our bank. Yet, I climbed over each hurdle smarter and more open-minded than before, and am extremely grateful for my team’s support.
My LGBTQ+ identity is also a defining part of my community and work life. I serve as an elected Co-Chair representing [firm]’s PRIDE’s 600-strong LGBTQ+ and allied membership. Together, we developed $150k+ in external community partnerships and leadership development programs, and built our own student mentorship and recruitment program called LGBT Insights.
I want to grow as a leader, innovator, and businesswoman at MIT Sloan. It would be an honor to collaborate alongside the innovators of the MIT community.
Thank you kindly for your consideration.
