Dear Mr. Rod Garcia,
I am writing to submit my application for a place in the MIT Sloan MBA Class of 20XX. I believe that my values and actions directly align with the qualities MIT Sloan is seeking.
This year, as a strategy consultant at MBB, I have supported the New York State COVID-19 Task Force during this time of unprecedented crisis. With no playbook to follow, I have had the latitude to implement unconventional, creative solutions to address the global supply chain collapse. On the MBB/New York State Healthcare Resilience team, for example, we struggled to meet the need for Personal Protective Equipment and nursing staff for overwhelmed hospitals and long-term care facilities. I analyzed national data from over 30,000 facilities to help the Task Force detect emerging hot spots, shifting our response from reaction to proactively preparing facilities.
In New York City I redefined solutions for a conventional but intractable problem: poverty. Since nonprofits tend to target narrow issues such as mentorship or STEM education, impoverished families in Bleak House, a public housing project in the Bronx, received single-issue support but lacked the basics: affordable groceries and internet access. I founded the Five Boroughs Initiative to bring together community leaders, nonprofits, and the public school system to coordinate efforts at Bleak House. For three years, my team has integrated these channels by helping families connected with one organization use resources offered by another organization. We’ve also expanded the programming capabilities of Bronx-area nonprofits by increasing funding opportunities, transitioning operations to a virtual environment, and optimizing school-supplied technology.
At Sloan, I will pursue the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Track and leverage Sloan’s unique action learning opportunities, such as E-Lab, the Silicon Valley Study Tour, and MIT fuse. I will be an active member of Sloan’s collaborative culture and thrive in Sloan’s problem-solving, leadership-focused curriculum.
Sincerely,
NAME
