Curiosity can be seen in many ways. Please share an example of how you have demonstrated curiosity and how that has influenced your growth. (up to 250 words)
My love of food began with a passion for eating; I eagerly anticipated every meal, ravenous from growth spurts. Observing my parents cooking, I constantly asked questions about their techniques – why dough rested, when to smash vs. chop garlic, or why eggs could be runny or whipped to stiff peaks.
Exhausted and lacking answers, my parents gifted me Harold McGee’s encyclopedic “On Food and Cooking”. I was captivated by the chemical reactions behind recipe outcomes, and I began cooking for family and friends, embracing experimentation and playing with flavor and texture.
While I loved eating, I found deep satisfaction in watching others enjoy my dishes. My cooking brought people together, sparking conversation and fostering relationships. It became an act of service, driven by the joy of sharing what I created and the breakthroughs I achieved with each new technique.
At XX, I’ve channeled my passion for food into building community and innovation. By opening our kitchen as an incubator for local businesses to test new food concepts, I’ve elevated others alongside myself. A nearby supplier grew their business when we developed a recipe using their foraged ingredients, including viburnum and cherry bark. This collaboration helped XX earn a “Green Brewery Award” last year for our work promoting local suppliers.
These experiences have shaped my desire to continue making a positive impact in the food and beverage industry by channeling my curiosity into innovative ways to develop our teammates and community, ultimately driving growth for our organization.
