Babson College educates entrepreneurial leaders who create great economic and social value—everywhere. Using Babson’s mission describe your short and long- term goals and how your goal(s) align with this mission.
One of the things I value most at work is the collaboration between teams to advance new technologies. As a Program Manager at Company X, I work on research and development (R&D) projects for the engineering department. R&D is an exciting field to me because we make quick decisions, progress at lightning speed, and focus on the future. Currently, I am directing a X project that impacts the future of autonomous driving.
Now that I have worked several years and discovered the space where I want to advance my career, it is evident I need an MBA to reach my long-term goal. I see myself on a path to a senior leadership position in R&D for a technology or automotive company, where I will have the ability to impact strategic decisions about the company’s R&D efforts. For example, I aspire to influence monumental decisions like Porsche’s recent $6B investment in electric cars and electric charging infrastructure. Being on the cutting edge of this type of technology will have significant economic impact, as we embrace electric-powered cars, and create social value, as we become more energy-efficient and environmentally-conscious.
In order to become that leader, I first need a Babson MBA, followed by a product management role at a technology or automotive company. As a product manager, I will have influence over a product’s lifecycle and gain critical experience overseeing the big-picture aspects of new product development, such as determining its marketing strategy and managing the budget. Through Babson’s extensive core coursework, I will learn these finance and marketing tools. Likewise, taking electives like Science, Technology, and the Enterprise at the Wellesley campus and EPS – Technology, Entrepreneurship & Design in Sweden will provide insight into the global impact technology can have on both economies and societies. Additionally, I anticipate applying my classroom learnings to real-world problems, such as the Global Connections through Technology project. These opportunities for exposure to different entrepreneurial roles at Babson, whether in the classroom or during a real-world project, will enable me to pivot to a R&D product manager role and advance up the ranks.
Beyond the academics, I am drawn to Babson’s close-knit culture and resulting network. I see great value in building camaraderie with my classmates through numerous extracurricular and social opportunities, as these experiences will enhance the shared learning I seek in my MBA program. I envision gathering with my classmates during the Annual Graduate Student Council Ski Trip and exploring Boston together on the weekends. These moments will not only create lasting memories, but also establish the foundation for connections that last many years after our time together on campus has ended.
I want a business education that will not only enable and facilitate my career, but also offers a lasting, lifelong community. Babson fits that bill, as its mission to cultivate leaders who create value and have a meaningful impact in the business world aligns with my goal of making a positive impact in the automotive / technology world.
