What legacy would you hope to leave as a Johnson graduate?

I would like my legacy at Cornell to be the ongoing success of the honor code. While the Johnson school’s current standards of academic integrity are thorough, I believe they could be expanded to further prevent offenses such as lying, cheating, and stealing. My undergraduate experience showed me that an honor code can be much more than rules to encourage ethical behavior. Rather, it can bring students together by providing a high standard to uphold, and provide an opportunity for leadership development by allowing the students to determine the code's administration and implementation. The MIT honor code helped forge bonds between classmates by providing a unifying ideal for all students equally.

While Johnson is a different type of program, I believe an expanded honor code would benefit Johnson School and its students. The school's reputation as a source of principled leaders would be enhanced, resulting in further prestige for Johnson. Johnson students would also have another opportunity to demonstrate leadership by serving on a student-run honor committee. Furthermore, the honor code would strengthen the bonds between Johnson classmates by uniting everyone in the support of an important set of principles. I would be extremely proud if my legacy was expanding the existing standards of integrity within the honor code that would benefit Johnson students for generations to come.
