In fall 202x, I visited my cousin Mickey Mouse, a Columbia MBA student and Vice President of IDENTITY GROUP X. He took me to one of the club’s barbecues, where I spent hours talking to Minnie Mouse, who was manning the wood-fired grill. We swapped techniques between Minnie’s traditional Filipino BBQ style and the techniques I knew from my own South Carolina background. The passion of Columbia students like Minnie and Mickey to share cultures and welcome outsiders shined. Although a rather untraditional highlight of a campus visit, this experience showed me just how expansive the Columbia Business School community is and reinforced my desire to become a part of it.
A Columbia MBA with a focus in INDUSTRY X is the perfect program to enable me to achieve my goals. Columbia’s emphasis on entrepreneurship aligns with my professional path, and the Milstein Center’s wide range of classes and unique industry outreach programs will facilitate connections within the best INDUSTRY X market in the world, New York. The INDUSTRY X Private Equity class will share best practices, while the INDUSTRY X Portfolio Management class will give insight into the challenges I anticipate when directing my own fund’s strategy. Furthermore, alumni breakfasts and Distinguished Speaker Lunch Series will vastly expand my network. INDUSTRY X is a people business; these connections are a priceless benefit of gaining an MBA from Columbia. There is nowhere better to hone my INDUSTRY X skills, broaden my general finance knowledge, and grow my network than Columbia.
