For as long as I can remember, my curiosity has led to innovation.

As a junior in high school, I took a class that required students to invent a product. At 5’ 2” tall, I loathed riding in the front seat of cars, as the sun visor never reached low enough to keep the blinding sun from piercing my eyes. Out of this frustration evolved a product prototype that used UV protection film hanging off a wall mount. This contraption was similar to a paper towel holder in that the protection film could be pulled down to the desired length.

Next, at my university’s Information & Community Technology lab, I learned my most important lesson to date regarding innovation – that it can occur outside the bounds of a physical product. Although seemingly obvious, as a naïve sophomore, it blew my mind. I learned to create innovative studies to extract relevant information from the end user. For example, using gamification to compel users to participate greatly elevated the quality of the data collected.

Professionally, I have continued to evolve as an innovator and creator. My current project’s objective is to improve the passenger experience at airports, and my team recognizes that strong design is borne out of understanding the end user perspective. To better understand these viewpoints, I interview frequent travelers and create “personas” to better understand how passengers’ function. This simple but tactical technique allows us to continually refine a product with the consumer in mind.

However, it is now time to further enhance my knowledge and skill set. Tuck will develop and refine my business toolkit through its academic and extracurricular opportunities, while also allowing me to contribute to a culture that values relationships, collaboration, and individualism. Through TuckGO, I look forward to participating in the “Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital in China” GIX to hone my global perspective. First, I will immerse myself in the Design and Innovation Club to further understand design and then apply those lessons in a practical setting. During the travel course, I will collaborate with my classmates to better understand the impact of design on entrepreneurship. For example, many Chinese designs revolve around emojis, and I am curious about how such design choices influence products on a global scale. Moreover, I am excited about joining the Dartmouth Entrepreneurs Forum team and organizing the annual conference. Tapping into my network, I envision bringing together successful innovators, such as KKK of Codeverse, to provide classmates with unparalleled networking and mentorship opportunities. Lastly, as a passionate humanitarian, I intend to establish a New England chapter of an organization close to my heart at Tuck. This non-profit is dedicated to education reform for school-age children in India, and I am confident that the Tuck community will embrace the group and help it thrive.

I believe my altruistic attitude and global mindset, coupled with Tuck’s unique culture and high-caliber student body, will inspire me to make a tangible impact on the Tuck community and the broader business world.
