Taking into consideration your background, how do you intend to make a meaningful impact on an elite MBA community?
At Cornell, I intend to make an impact on the community through my involvement in the Healthcare Club and the Women’s Management Council. Healthcare Club president [Firstname Lastname] told me about the informational and networking events hosted by the club, particularly the annual, student-organized Johnson Healthcare Club Symposium. The full-day event assembles Johnson students and industry professionals from companies such as [Company X and Y]. I am eager to help organize the symposium, drawing on my own organizational experience: I have organized over a dozen symposiums at Iowa State for 300 patients and providers, through panels led by thought leaders and artist-led wellness workshops. At Cornell, I envision organizing symposium discussions around disparities in healthcare access and the need for increased patient diversity and inclusion in clinical trials.
As a member of the Healthcare Club, I would also like to launch an HCC podcast channel. I have launched a podcast series through Help With Crohns, the non-profit I co-founded for patients and healthcare professionals in rural Iowa. I see HCC podcasts as an opportunity to continue the conversations that will develop during the annual symposium. I plan to invite Johnson alumni, alongside my past colleagues and industry leaders, to share their knowledge throughout the year.
Cornell’s Women’s Management Council (WMC) is a complete support system for Johnson women. During my campus visit in October 202X, I attended the WMC Social, where I met [student A, student B, and Student C]. I learned how the WMC creates a supporting environment for women in business, from holding student-led office hours for prospective students, to monthly Sandwiches and Sage events and providing resume and interview advice. Having helped women establish exercise programs and support groups for Crohn’s disease patients, I plan to initiate a similar program at Cornell, in which club members provide consulting services to female-run organizations. I envision reaching out to other Johnson clubs, such as BR Consulting, to help increase the presence of women in management. Through these involvements, I hope to further cultivate the sense of family I felt so strongly during my interactions with Johnson.
