How has your experience prepared and encouraged you to pursue these goals? (350 words maximum): My experience has encouraged my interest in strategic consulting because I am interested in business strategy and processes, and hope to build a breadth of knowledge in a wide array of industries and functions. The industry fascinates me professionally, based on my work in the finance sector, but even more from my personal experience: over 5 years, from 2004 to 2009, I watched the failure of my father’s business in Thailand, exporting palm oil products to the Middle East. The failure was largely strategic: the company relied too heavily on a niche customer base, and expanded through acquisitions that turned out not to be financially viable. Market analysis, expansion strategy and effective management processes would have led to more responsible growth. Seeing first-hand the importance of business strategy inspired me to pursue a consulting career path post-MBA.
My background in engineering and my masters in Computer Science have equipped me with strong quantitative, analytical and technological skills , preparing me for the comprehensive quantitative analysis and financial modeling of a consultant. Moreover, consulting has been dramatically disrupted by digital transformation, relying today on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and robotics, which are strong areas for me.
At FedEx, I’ve jumped into projects with no prior technical or domain knowledge and learned on the job. This flexibility has prepared me for the constant exposure to new industries that I will experience as a consultant. I also lead a global team that serves a global client base and collaborate closely with teams around the world, from senior compliance officers to external audit teams: presenting project plans, timelines and resource requirements. In my role as a consultant, I will leverage these skills while presenting solutions to a client company’s CEO and CFO.
Over time, I want to rise to the role of principal, providing strategic vision to clients through organizational and operational improvements. Building on my consulting experience and my MBA education, I will supervise the firm’s business development efforts, manage client relationships, deliver large scale projects and manage multiple teams, while serving as a thought leader and mentor.
