(2,000 characters) Merging my campus learning with real world impact was the most impactful and rewarding aspect of my undergraduate experience. I’m committed to similarly engaging in the learning and sharing that comes with being part of an MBA community, and to furthering the mission of the Consortium by participating in social impact programs on campus and in local communities as an MBA student.

As a Board Fellow, I will work closely with local organizations to learn about their needs, connect them to resources, and develop sustainable strategies. While my non-profit experience and college government organizational skills will hopefully prove valuable, I’ve learned that the best solutions often already lie with those in the community.

Putting my classroom learning into action, I will take part in case competitions focused on complex social inequities, such as the John Lewis Case Competition. My team will craft entries that tap into the assets often overlooked in historically oppressed communities: the people of these communities themselves.

Off campus, I’m excited to connect the vast resources of my MBA program with nearby communities that have not had equal access to opportunity, using soccer as a common language. Across the country, there are countless young people of color that dream of continuing their education through sports. I’ll create weekly on-campus soccer games connecting MBA students with local youth, followed by shared dinners underwritten by our clubs, and launch financial literacy workshops conducted by current students.

My motivation for attending business school is to better leverage management and leadership principles to create a more just world for historically oppressed communities. These lessons will become real when I apply them to social issues that I care about deeply. These clubs, competitions, and initiatives will be an integral part of my MBA experience.
