Your motivations for pursuing an MBA, why Kellogg, why now.
Question 1 (450 words) Intentionality is a key aspect of what makes our graduates successful Kellogg leaders. Help us understand your journey by articulating your motivations for pursuing an MBA, the specific goals you aim to achieve, and why you believe now is the right moment. Moreover, share why you feel Kellogg is best suited to serve as a catalyst for your career aspirations and what you will contribute to our community of lifelong learners during your time here.
My long-term career aspiration is to serve as the Chief Digital Transformation Officer for a financial giant such as British Express, building on my personal and professional passion for finance to become a digital transformation leader. In order to achieve both my immediate post-MBA goal to join the payments sector as a consultant at McBain or MBB, I need to sharpen my financial and technical expertise, and build a refined leadership style in order to empathize with customer needs and complex stakeholder networks.
My motivation for pursuing the Kellogg MBA is to round out my financial and technical acumen, build through my work at Mid-Tier Consulting, where I’ve gained exposure to financial services. Kellogg’s “Financial Decisions” course will sharpen my ability to evaluate investments, such as whether to adopt or decommission tools. Recently, while advising a director of digital transformation, the director lamented the challenges she faced trying to determine how much to invest in generative AI tools for sales enablement. I will bring these real-world insights on tool evaluation and organizational design to the class “Technology and Innovation Strategy.” Courses and hands-on experiences will round out my financial and technical acumen and give me opportunities to invest in the Kellogg experience.
I have rapidly risen in my career, and now is the right time to return to graduate school, since I am in a financially secure place to take two years off for my MBA studies. Also, Kellogg is the perfect place to deepen my Chicago roots. both from a professional standpoint and socially.
At Kellogg, I hope to become a more empathetic leader for all stakeholders, a crucial skill for my aspiration to drive digital transformation. During my April 2024 campus visit, I asked Assistant Director of Admissions Katie Dyssegard how recruiters perceive Kellogg students: “Kellogg nice,” she said, is the key differentiator for Kellogg alumni in professional settings. Learning alongside classmates with these characteristics and refining my personal brand through “Personal Leadership Inventory” mirrors the qualities I want to continue demonstrating in the workplace.
To contribute to Kellogg’s community of lifelong leaders, I would like to launch a Financial Literacy Club, where my classmates and I will discuss topics pertinent to our MBA experience such as optimizing off-campus travel costs, and launch co-branded events with Healthcare@Kellogg to explore funding family care. I will also share my flying experience with the Chicago Air Club, by becoming an avid member of the Northwestern’s Flying Team, and I will connect classmates with the nonprofit Student Success, where I have coached community college students in finance issues, to help them gain economic mobility.
Kellogg’s blend of rigorous academics and supportive culture will prepare me to drive transformative change in financial services.
